Madison County was established on December 13, 1808 and became recognized as the birthplace of Alabama. In the 1950's, a group of scientists moved to Madison County and assisted in the creation of the Redstone Rocket. The Redstone Rocket was later modified to send the first two Americans into space. As a result, Huntsville is the home of the world-famous U.S. Space and Rocket Center. In addition to the space center, Huntsville also offers fantastic opportunities to explore the arts, nature, unique breweries, and all other sorts of lively activities.
